Some original content and pics.

Thus concludes about 2yrs on this Kickstarter. The sculpts on these have been brilliant and casting generally quite clean. Lovely details and now looking forward to see what their 2nd Kickstarter delivers.

But to back the main event only because it's been so long coming...starting back in 2012 in fact. Been avidly watching the updates, the development, the delays, but it finally came! Kingdom Death - Monster and boy was it a monster, 22lbs apparently!

Anyway, i know the pin up range isn't to everyone's taste but this core game moves away from that and is much more to the billing of Boutique nightmare horror. The minis are beautiful and highly detailed and as such am as terrified at painting these as reading through the rulebook.

So next on the bench are Ultramarines, (dreads and tactical sqd) hopefully finished Angel tanks, more Blood angel termies, hulk and others. And progress shots of Revenant, Thantar, and Imperial knight. 2 weeks of at xmas hopefully will help the cause. Fingers crossed though will try to fit in another update before then.

Hopefully you have come to the conclusion that you shouldn't expect to much of my offerings. They are few and far between. But hopefully when i do post they are worthwhile.
Anyhoo a quicky post as always, but just to commemorate the delivery of a long awaited kickstarter 2 yrs in the making. Kingdom Death Monster has begun to ship. I haven't been as fussed as some of the rest of the internet with the delay. Patience is a virtue and with all the work that has gone into it not surprised it took so long.

Grateful that Mr Poots took the time as the initial offerings are awesome and well worth the wait. Kinda regret not splashing out on some of the resin versions now. Not that the plastic offerings are anything to be sniffed at but just to go with some of my previous purchases. Anyhow, like with those now its a case of doing justice to such lovely figs. I've only taken the plunge with the 54mm Pin up preacher so far. Maybe will hold off. In the build up though have been practicing skin tones with other figs and trying out new paints. Trying Reaper triad system on an Anima tactics fig "Bella" has come out quite nicely. So definitely something to play around with more. Also been working on Infinity amongst other things so onward and upward. To top off an amazing weekend for more than just these reasons, the other kickstarter i backed for Raging heroes should also complete shortly with my final wave due for pick up. Can't wait, and with their second kickstarter (also backed) looking mighty impressive need to reign in the urge to splurge, especially with my only little mini on its way.... Exciting times!
Well, life is one great big excuse! Can't complain though, big changes afoot and has been an exciting couple of months resulting in happiness (lots of various bits to list!), sadness, (main thing being i lost my wedding ring :S ), but generally the good has out weighed the bad. One particular good bit of good news is i have finally completed all my professional exams! Huzzah, that means more time to do fun stuff that i actually want to do,to use my annual leave as actual leave and not study leave!! Has been a long slog but hopefully will be worth it all. So hopefully that gives me more incentive to write up my hobbying exploits, it being my main vice in life.

Tanks tanks and not a drop to blow the heck out of anything..

So what have i been upto in the meantime? well, continuing to buy too much with the justification that i am saving for retirement... :P Hopefully by then my robot body and eyes will allow me to continue to paint and appreciate fine sculpts. But it i do need to reign it in a bit.. Case in point.. too many tanks...?

Quite possibly, considering this is just my guard armour,... i would say this is down to a slight case of OCD and that i require order. Cos i tend to collect symmetrically so they form up nicely... Hence they are in squadrons.

Anyway sometimes i sit back and think what is this all for? and in times like these its just to array them out or occasionally have a mock battle. Here is my Blood angel armour vs some of my Eldar armour including recently added Scorpion from the wonder and curse of ebay...

One day this will take place on a proper table with proper terrain, but for now, the floor must do.

Anyhoo now to actual progress updates, work continues on various projects from one mini month entries (OMAN), to stuff that takes my fancy or that has been hanging about a while. I was going to give the Eldar rest a bit, but does not seem to be happening so for now work continues on Fire Dragons, Crimson hunter, Phoenix, rangers, and Old school guardians with a smattering of old jetbikes, seers and exarchs... not all featured here Just dragons have pics at the mo, but they are in train.

The main body of the dress needs some work though as not entirely happy with it as could be neater. But Brush definitely helps if it is decent, as does paint.Trying to work with paint without mixing as much now to see what effect that has... Its feels like cheating as i grew up with only a 10 colours max to mix to make other colours from.. But does result in a slightly smoother finish. Also testing other companies. Already moved to Vallejo for airbrush work, but starting to utilise their other range, but also branching out to P3 and Reaper. Will see what i can achieve with them.

Nice dynamic sculpts, not that the old ones were bad, the old ones have their charm and are still some of my favourites.
Finally some base work for the larger models. Here you see the base for one of my Valkyries. Reasonbly happy with the result utilising all sorts of waste models and crud on my desk to form something half decent. needs more weathering and the Forge world resin chunk needs a bit of work to ake it look more like a concrete something or other.. But those offcuts do come in use!

Apologies for the rather poor tabloid-esque title, but couldn't think of a thematic title to segue into the post.

Anyway what's the reason i wanted to shoe horn a biker reference in? Infinity, that's why. Their new releases continue to amaze to the extent i can't help but need to have them. This especially seems true of their bike based units --->

I now have picked up Yojimbo, the bootleg version of Penthesilia (having already painted the original) and their latest release the Nazarova Twins. I absolutely could not resist with these girls, I was going to pick up their compatriots the Kum enforcers at some point as those too are fabulous models, but these jumped the queue. The only issue now is doing all these figures justice... they are just so intricate and the amazing paint job by Angel Giraldez on them just makes me feel so unworthy... but try i will at some point, probably using tips from his book.

But Infinity do seem to have taken over from GW with the wow factor for me. This seems to be an ongoing trend. While undoubtedly the quality and tech is obviously there being the big player in the industry, GW new releases are doing it for me less and less as more and more the sculpts and designs are leaving me cold. I'm not sure why this is but i have a sneaking suspicion they have changed the design team... Where does Jes Goodwin feature nower days? who does do the designing? I can't seem to find names of who sculpted what these days, Is it because it is all CAD designed now? Are the new minis now the work of trainees to meet the demand of the intense release schedule? All in all while there are some nice ideas, final execution just is missing for me meaning i am not in a rush to pick up any of the new stuff like i used to. The last model that did get me going was the Imperial knight, but i put that to it being a large kit so more QA has been put into it. But that was a while ago now and none of the new stuff is making me want it right now. Take the new Eldar, haven't even picked up the harlequins yet, while some of them look nice, none scream get me now... Now looking at the new craftworld releases, this seems to reinforce the feeling. While they have been based on Jes's designs, they seem to lack his finishing touches. More so on the Farseer model, but the canopy seems a little short and the riders a bit lacking in dynamism. I can't put my finger on it but compared to the dark eldar reavers they are missing something.

But where they have fallen away, my attention is more and more drawn by Corvus belli's work. a combination of excellent studio painting and quality minis, priority is now going to them for my hobby budget.

Anyway enough of this semi monologuing on my views of the state of miniatures. back to the updates. Continuing on from the biker theme, another reason why am not rushing out to get the new kits.... i still have a bunch of the old ones! this will complete my ulthwe windrider host as well. Infact many of the bundles they have put together now i already have so it does look like minimal renewal for me in this respect.

Also have bee working on old skool rogue trader harlequins, guess who discovered pink paint ... So now one of the troupes have electric pink hair. In addition, Crimson hunter is coming to fruition after much debating on the final colour scheme as wanted it to fit in while still reflecting its aspect colours.

Old is the new new for me a the moment and as you can see have also been revisiting an old epic knight errant, do love these figs, won't be for gameplay but i like these occasional one off pieces to mix it up.

Finally a couple of projects also nearing completion. One for One mini a month for Ammobunker, A commissar which i have now found out is from a company called brother vinni miniatures i picked up off ebay. nice sculpt. And FW Ultramarine Venerable dread also from ebay which is having finishing details such as the banner being worked on to bring it to completion. All in all, still productive despite exam season fast approaching!
Anyway that is life, so best quit whining and cut to the pictures as haven't been idle hobbywise. It's has been a good distraction from the daily challenges of trying to be an adult. Anyways what do we have? Mainly Eldar, guard and Angel Giraldez's book plus some group shots.
Anyhoo photography skills still somewhat lacking, can't get my set up right, But have completed Alarielle and am working on the Blood angels. Also picked up a bargainous Armageddon pattern Medusa, It was however glued shut, so it has been to the breakers yard so i can paint the lovely innards. Luckily came apart relatively easily.

But Hulk terminators are reminding me why they have been put off for so long, they are character models in themselves with lots of little details so taking my time to get them right.
But in the back ground have some converted Dark vengence terminators, shamelessly copied from Poom or Marius from the ammobunker/flickr, they will beef up my assault element, even though Terminators aren't great in the game anymore they are still some of my favourite models. But for the hulk ones will try to finish this first batch then move on to the second group after i put together some more standard ones, All this in between the tanks
and other things that take my attention away. I.e the Ultramarine tanks and some more Infinity
Always something new to start and always something old to finish. With the recent release of the new blood Angels, this has reignited a little spark to get some more of them finished. Not that i am particularly enamored by any of the new releases, but has got me wanting to get back to work on them by finishing their tanks and first company, namely the space hulk models that have been languishing unfinished since 2009... jeez time flies.... but seeing as the new terminators are based on these models, its kinda like painting new stuff. But yeah had a mini rant the other day about the general quality of the new releases from GW. More and more am getting less excited by what is being produced. They seem to be mostly rehashes of stuff out already i.e all the new space marine stuff, wolves, angels etc that aren't done particularly nicely. Now that's generalising a bit as fantasy have had some nice releases with that wow factor namely Nagash, but for smaller less expensive figs, just haven't been feeling it. Does make me worry about the future for them. But what has happened to the design team. Are they all made up of trainees now? What has happened to Jes Goodwin...Well it matters not, have built up a massive backlog now for retirement (lol) or whenever there is time and other companies such as Corvus Belli are drawing me more and more. Still is sad to see.

Anyhoo another mini rant over, back to the hobby programming. Where was i? ah yes Blood angels, i also started the above fella as a potential subject for one mini a month on Ammobunker, the lord executioner was one of the more impressive minis from the captains release and picked him up when they came out but never got round to him. But now he has taken the first steps to become a blood angel i am faced with the dilemma that the stock head just doesn't seem to fit the aesthetic.. however, choices are limited and at the moment the below two are alternatives to the original (left photo). The middle one looks pretty boy-ish but have used that head on the honour guard before so not sure. The one on the right just looks a bit big. so decisions decisions... for the record don't like any of the ones supplied with the Blood angel kits. Hair doesn't fit and they are too big...
Well if you did it can only mean one thing... yes the Ultramarine's look like they too will be getting a bit of time in the sun as i look to beef up their tank pool. This has been spurred on from my recent purchase of a couple of used rhino chassis from my old pal ebay for a not too unreasonable £20, but what caught my eye was that they came with FW doors. How could i resist?! And having also in the stash a trio of razor turrets what more incentive do i need? Downside is they are missing rear ramps but am sure can rustle some up. This is especially the case as i plan to build and paint up a ride for Chronus's and have been collecting the parts for this for a while. It will be a super FW pimped up Predator with Ultramarine plates, mk4 predator upgrades, extra armour and the works. Should keep him happy, until i get to work on a sicarian. But 2015 is shaping up to be a case of back to the Imperium.
As mentioned before for the one mini a month, in the end decided to do something different and submit a fantasy figure. With what has been happening to the elves recently thought it was time to paint up Alarielle as a potential kickstarter to High elf reinforcements.. well actually a new army but will see. But while working on her also thought it is also high time to finish the Kingdom of death pinup preacher. Spent the majority of my day yesterday on these two and reasonably happy with the results. For Alarielle, while i love the studio colour scheme, tried to be a bit different and went with an off white cream and wood theme. Came out pretty well, just needs some final touches. For the preacher, stuck with artwork colours. Just needs some highlighting on the erm... clothing.. but she has eyes and stockings are almost there, few details hear and there, but flesh wise am pleased with the learning, obviously more practice is needed but getting there
Another hiatus of sorts owing to life events and what nots. But with the festive season, hopefully means will have more time to dedicate to my hobby enjoyment! Anyway not many words to describe process but have been trying to finish pieces that have been started and left hanging. o that be mainly infinity and raging heroes figs.

For infinity finally getting round to Penthesilea, love the fig and wanted to do her justice. Have gone with the original colour scheme being not very creative and just liking that look. Need to work on the blending. Also Ariadna force grows and and hoping to finish up the merovian elements before i move on to tackle Operation ice storm's minis and the stuff have picked up along the way this year, not least a few tags and the dire foes sets. At the end of all this imagine i will hav three infinity factions. Ariadna, PanO and Nomads, with maybe some Aleph since have Penthesilea but will see. Also go some of the bootleg stuff to sort so that will keep me busy

Also as the year draws to a close so too will the focus on the Eldar of Ulthwe, they have ahad a good few additions this year. There is still a bit to do with them but will see. Will do an army shot at some point. But for now am finishing up support elements and so will have 3 night spinners as the web based attack of ulthwe who will be summarised by Warp, webs and blades in their method of dealing with the enemy.

I've used up all my creative writing juices entering Jayden's compo on his blog The Imperial patrol, but just to back up that reply i thought i'd update what i was rambling on about, shots of the Ulthwe strike force and the spiders. To be fair i probably don't need more spiders, though they would make the force symmetrical. But without further a do to the pictures!!
Been a while again but have only been idle in the blogging sense. For some reason have been feeling particularly productive of late. Probably exam retakes... a good way to relax. Though hasten to add I did do my revision. Anyway a variety of projects still underway. Ulthwe strike force is nearing where i want it to get to and nice to hear there maybe an upcoming supplement for them. Will have an army shot soon. But Jetbike contingent refurb has been done. Adding another 3 man unit and then the warlocks and they will be done. Also adding aspect warriors. For Ulthwe will only be Spiders, reapers & Dragons that will be craftworld specific.
Speaking of spiders am revamping my 20yr old ones and am adding a second squad. Say what you will about finecast but it does make converting easier. Picked up an exarch from ebay for a reasonable price, bit of cutting here and there, greenstuff and voila, slightly more dynamic pose.
The scheme itself will be a darker variation to fit in with the guardians though retain aspect colours.

After these will be working on walkers and finishing up the wraith contingent. Had thought i was done with the wraiths but have decided to add another unit of D-Scythers. Mainly for symmetry.... erm yeah i'm neurotic that way. You'll see what i mean when i get the army shots up.

Then it will be moving on to the next project. I am feeling for a return to the guard. Have still been working on them in the background. Maybe an inquisition focussed project though may also be knight related once i get one that is. In the meanwhile picked up an avenger for a decent price as came with some elysians!

Lacks canopies though think can knock some up with some plasticard. More Navy support for the imperials though.

But finally to other projects.

Ultramarines will also be getting their reinforcements worked on. At the moment it's a Ven dread, not quite a rifleman but lascannons are cool :D

Then more work on other non GW stuff. Pinup preacher is getting there. This isn't the latest photo but been testing out flesh techniques. Still not as smooth as i like but looks decent. Painted up the one of Raging heroes girls as well. Tarja. Very nice fig, May use her as an astropath or Primaris proxy. Nurse Berndette is next.
Has been a delay in delivery but hopefully get that soon. But to be honest there is other infinity stuff i haven't painted up yet so that might be a while. They just keep coming out with gorgeous stuff. I can keep buying it but can't keep up with painting it and not to the beautiful standards of Angel Giraldez. Will definitely be getting his book when it comes out. Think miniature wise, the bar has been raised and am finding lately Infinity stuff is more appealing than the latest GW stuff. Corvus belli's sculpts and Angel's painting is winning combo.

But anyway had a nice surprise waiting in the inbox to say wave 1 of the Raging heroes toughest girls in the galaxy kickstarter rewards had been shipped and would be ready for pick up. Awesome! just in time for a special date and a free weekend of hopefully me time.

So today wandered down to Dark sphere to pick up me goodies. Now these have been in the offing for a while and are only 1 of two mini related kickstarters i've pledged against. Since it has been a while i was hoping i wouldn't be disappointed by poor quality, however i need not have worried and was glad to see the wait was worthwhile. The guys and gals at raging heroes have done an excellent job and couldn't be more pleased. Excellent sculpts true to the art, and excellent casts as per usual from their range. Can't wait for the next waves, a little regret i didn't pledge more but it's fine :D

So in today's wave, One shot blondie, Nurse bernadette and Tarja the soul weaver (might use her as a primaris or astropath) Came well packed with custom seals. Will get better pictures if i start on them this weekend
So yesterday i had the rarity of a day where i had absolutely no obligations so could dedicate the entire day to whatever i wished.. No errands, no household DIY, no appointments, and think the missus was being her sweet self and took herself off to spend the day with her family so i could have a "me" day. Well not wishing to waste such a gesture and opportunity, duly tried to get as much done as i could... while doing a little bit of exercise to work off the devastator burger from the previous night out with the boys.... 6 patties pulled pork, cheese, gherkins, bacon....a proper heart attack meal. Having said that we all demolished it in short order and was a bit disappointing. Tasty burger but not as undoable as we thought.

Anyway with painting on the agenda decided to try and finish off a few pieces that have been kicking around for a while now as well as start a couple of new ones.

So with that i managed to finish most of the tank crew for my tank companies and a Seraphim, a Tyrannic war vet and started and almost finished a medic for the catachans though the figure actually comes from Black scorpion miniatures that i picked up at salute. On top of this work continues on the wraith knight as unless i finish him i have imposed a ban on myself getting an Imperial Knight..... So plan is to finish him this month so the Knight household can be the next project....well alongside Bleach Eldar... :D

Anyway the Catachan medic girl was also a test piece for lady flesh. Have been seeking out tutorials of late to try and master this skill as have a few female minis
waiting in the wings from random impulse buys and kickstarter pledges to Raging heroes - The toughest girls in the galaxy and the Kingdom Death - Monster project.

The later is the really daunting one as their figures really are exquisite and intimidating to paint. However, they are controversial due to the depiction of their ladies, i.e.minimal clothing, all bewbs and butts everywhere....though you would expect that if the line are called "pin ups" ...not that the non pin ups are well furnished in the clothing department either. So while they do other nice figures that aren't girls, i can't deny what drew me to the line at first was these pin up sculpts. As a firm appreciator of the female form, i do think they are some of the best small scale female sculpts, albeit, a tad unrealistic as they tend towards an idealised fantasy proportioned woman, super emphasised on the things the majority of appreciators of the ladies enjoy the most. But regardless, i likes what i likes. But yes to do them justice would mean much improvement would be needed in my blending techniques, learn how to use washes properly and generally keeping everything smooth....all in all it will be a learning experience.

But taking encouragement from Dai, who's blog i recently discovered as he had been painting up a white speaker from the range, I bit the bullet and gave painting a Kingdom Death figure a go having put it off for so long. To ease me in i had recently picked up one of their 54mm scale figures off ebay. She came pre-built so that was a bit of a shame but was okay, cast itself was mainly fine. A few mould lines, easily scraped off... But herein lies lesson reminder one for me, and my overall weakness.....Patience....and care... having scraped these bits off i really should give the figure a good clean before priming otherwise you end up with dust flecks and ruins all the smoothness that is intended... alas. lesson reminded... and not wanting to strip and start over pushed on regardless... wasn't too bad... So with base coat of Vallejo grey primer then flesh tone set to work on blocking out all that was not lady flesh...i.e the minimal clothing

It was at this point i persuade the head to become unstuck. I was glad it came away with no damage as allowed me to get to the back of the figure. So finishing off the blocking, set to putting a further base tone for the flesh as the other flesh tone was a bit to yellow. as it is that basecoat works great for wraithbone! This was brushed on and made up off some Elf flesh, Vallejo pale flesh and tallarn flesh....still not sure of this as looks a bit too dark....

But we shall see.... maybe with highlights as work up the transitions it will be fine...But this is to be continued as that is only as far as i got.
On the catachan medic seems to be okay but my transitions are still a bit hamfisted...
But this weekend has been about getting some modelling done and putting into action an idea that as been brewing in me brain for a while....
I have a history of bringing televisual influences into my hobby. Previous such influences included Sharpe, Lara croft, band of brothers. But having been introduced to the joy of the anime of Bleach by me missus, its influence has gradually taken hold in that it has moved me to try and bring some of the characters into my armies in some form. Ideas like this usually mean theming an army. But not wanting to start from scratch, ideas have been floating around in me head as to where they could fit. Initial thoughts had been an inquisition band but then when i started revisited the Eldar and creating the Mymearan army it kinda made me want to put them in Eldar form especially since they are quite slight in frame. Then it hit me whilst lining up what i had painted in a role call. I could repurpose my armies to represent a couple of central factions of Bleach. Ulthwe being black could represent the "shinigami" or soul reapers and the Mymearans could represent the Quincy - Soul destroyers or something to that effect. This idea was further crystalised by how the armies were set up. The Mymearans i had were mostly employing light based weapons akin to the Quincy spirit bow. While the Ulthwe had a predominance of shuriken...i.e bladed weapons... therefore it fitted nicely. As such, when i continue to expand the armies, will stick to this tenet so that Ulthwe will mainly make use of only bladed, warp and monofilament based weapons, while the Mymearans would be light and speed based weapons.

But what would unite the two and how would the Ichigo, the main protaganist and his friends fit in as belonged to neither....

after pondering a while the answer, was obvious.....Harlequins!!
The rest of the troupe will represent the vizards and still figuring out how to include the other main characters but am sure that will come. but for now just starting to turn the leaders into captains and such..

and here's he first attempt in creating Ichigo. can't get his mask right but will work on it some more.Xepherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14225563081540654987noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4212196334295160940.post-58009380566886547242014-06-02T15:32:00.003-07:002014-06-02T15:32:57.192-07:00Freedom & special deliveryA quicky post to say am free from the rigours of revision woooooooooo
Then there is the joy of sorting through a big pile of stuff to see what interesting bits there are. Anyway recent couple of ebay wins on job lots have come up trumps,

Previous one was an eldar lot which turned out very nicely,

Then today a nice solid looking box turned up, ready to be opened and enjoyed after work. Initial sifting turned out some quite coolly converted stuff, notable mentions going to an interesting take on what i believe are tau stealth suits, and converted inquisitor scale brother artemis. Other stuff included a warhammer giant, 3 converted minotaurs, a load of blood letters, , beastmen, a black dragon body, and a load of skaven, necron, grey knight, chaos, tau, ork & imperial bits. Wooot! all this joy this time for the princely sum of 20 squid!

What a nice way to end the working week
Quick post just showing finishing touches to vulture gunship. Had been putting this off as couldn't decide whats should grace the nose of this beast. But having looked at a few other examples, finally plumped on an image had long admired that is found in starcraft and more specifically on Tychus's armour. After finding some better images for reference, set about adding her to the vulture and then adding a suitable name.Settling on gunbaby in the end for the heavily armed gunship. Still undecided to on whether to add pilot names to the cockpit but obvious choices are findlay and Raynor, but not knowing enough about ranks, not sure what rank a pilot should be? are they flight lieutenants? captains? Also have to give her a gun. But what gun to add. What is a quintessential 40K gun that will not look out of place in her left hand?

Anyway quite happy with the results and will be adding more nose art to other Imperial aircraft in the future. But to finish off Gun baby with some jetbikes i have also been working on.
Have an idea but sitting down and translating it to the written word laced with pictures usually proves to be the stumbling block. However, this post was somewhat helped by this post. which sums up one facet of what i had been contemplating lately i.e one of the issues i have with the hobby is that i flit around too much, tempted by the next thing, idea in my head leading me to never actually finishing anything (hence title of blog, tales of the impatient.
But then this brought me onto thinking about what am i trying to achieve with my hobby whilst evaluating my collection. 20 odd years ago.. (wow...it has been that long!!) my collection began with what i liked the look of. Of course this was based on the pictures of perfectly painted up minis on the boxes and in White Dwarf, but there was a bit of a gulf from that and what i was able to recreate (well my sister at the time of my first minis!) 20 years on this is still very much true. However now with increased buying power from employment and being a pseudo adult, less time in general for anything and more stuff than ever to paint, i find my skills plateauing... but for what reason? and is that what i want? Of course not, i want to paint like the best of them, but with that takes, time, practice and to a certain extent a more extensive set up, some of which i feel less inclined to invest in as channels funds away from more precious precious minis... But is that wise, and again is that really what i want?
But then what about the massed ranks of armies that look so cool, especially when there is symmetry involved?!?! what about having all the options for a game i rarely play? what about trying to adhere to fluff from an imaginary world when building a force? Yer see, here in lies my dilemma, i think i am slightly hobby OCD and have far too many conflicting neuroses to focus when it comes to the hobby. So the short of it i want to be both...alas i will probably end up either...actually i will have a large collection it will just look rubbish which will fuel my buying habits to buy more stuff thinking one day i will have time to recreate what has been driving me in this hobby for all these years... GW are cunning aren't they....My only hope is if i can dig some time out somewhere as that will be the only time i will be able to dedicate improving. otherwise i will be stuck adding to the collection. as for painting services. Whilst they can "paint my world" as BTP put it,i think that takes some of the fun out of it... that and they take further funds away from more mini purchases...so another dead end

As it is, at the moment my aim will be to improve the general level & speed of painting so i can create a good looking force of decent standard. learning to master the airbrush is definitely key to this. Will then move on to seeing if i can create a great looking one....But interlaced will be side projects of single minis to try and push the boundaries a little.... wow that almost sounds like a plan...
(since i didn't decide to stop buyin cool stuff :P) Seeing as he has been sitting around for a bit its only fair. It's all the options that have been delaying progress, well that and all the little details i want to add. Still not really sure how i keep them swapable as don't think even magnets will be strong enough and pinning isn't feasible as its ball and socket joints... anyway blutack for now. N.B there is some minor conversion on the arms, have gone for underslung guns rather than on the back of the forearm mounting. I know blogs are supposed to be an opportunity to put it all out there seems a bit weird. So for now i'll stick to what i've been doing and hobbywise still going strong. Nothing like impending exams to help the mojo flow. So in the mix are Anima tactics, Infinity, Forgeworld and good ol' regular GW.. Sooo let the photos flow. Still haven't got the hang of this formatting on blogger so it will just have to be a mishmash of photos. But from Infinity you will see "Penthesilea", i.e lady on a bike. Couldn't resist any longer and going on my current strategy of one in one out, i.e once have finished something can start something new, i allowed myself to start her, having just done a load of Ulthwe black guardians and also finished "one shot", shown here on the left. Now although she is a fantastic model, those bits ain't half delicate and when cleaning up (of which is minimal) you have to be careful not to remove any detail by accident. Anyway once built have started painting her using Angel Giraldez's step by step guide on facebook as reference. Boy does he make it look easy but i can testify...it ain't. Still a learning process, may actually have to break pen a new airbrush to try some finer techniques. Anyhoo along with the lovely lady, also recently picked up a long coverted Macharius from FW off the charming chap that runs Badass studios.. Have been wanting one for ages but RRP is a bit off putting. Now while still not that cheap and missing a few bits and bobs, its essentially what i have been looking for with the bonus i didn't have to put it together. I say bonus, as had hear it was fiddly, usually i am against such things as i think thats the whole point of the hobby side, making everything for yourself, but when it comes to such a big project, its nice not to worry you'll mess it up. There was a choice of the vanquisher or the vulcan and while had considered the vulcan (came complete as well) ultimately think the vanquisher looks more boss like so had to go with aesthetics. Am happy i did. She is now all primed up ready to go. just need to sort some hatches and crew for her. And you can see below her sitting happily with my Wraithknight who is getting more love in a bid to finish before the new imperial knights start appearing and before i get tempted to bu one of those...
Will get him in the photo studio at some point but happy how he has turned out.
All in all, not bad for me, not bad at all...onward and upward though like a soaring hawk..... :P
Mid January, a few weeks since last update. Probably too late for wishing you all a happy new year, but hope it was a good one. CNY coming up so could wish you all an early one for that, but maybe will have another update around that time. Anyhow, mine was going alright but recent personal news has dampened that somewhat. But dealing with it as we all do.
Otherwise getting a routine going so feels good mojo wise. I hope to finish some things again this year like the Blood Angels of last year. So much so have put made a plan, done an audit of what i have in the plastic pile and broken it down into manageable sub projects... Of course that's all just procrastinating. I'll just end up doing stuff as and when i feel like it :D but aim is to try and not start anything new until i finish the another thing...as it is have started quite a few things...

So on the hobby desk as of late

Drop pod has been languishing around for a while, so was time for more paint.

Central control panel & Wraith seer giving it a good stomp

Recently picked up more jetbikes for a decentish price. I.e less than rrp. These were in better shape (no paint and well built) than the last ebay rescues but lacking in shuricannons. As i have an abundance of these from walkers and wraithlord kits, why not retrofit these onto some standard bikes?.... The bike fleet as it stands on the left

Also Barroth is getting a new lick of paint, not sure on the colours thought. Was thinking sky themed colours and also herald of victory hence the lighter palate...but seems a bit too bright
Didn't end up altering the pose that much, required too much cutting of an expensive model so removed some peggage, straightened out his leg a bit and ended up him mimicking the wraithseer... except he has nothing to step on at the mo.....maybe some cork will be required. Also the matter of deciding whether to bother magnetising...while it does off the options, i don't play (yet) so not sure... things were so much simpler in the olden days :D

Pictures pending on work on Ulthwe guardians and been finishing the shadow spectres..... been putting those off due to the stupid robes... while nice they are a pain as not always obvious where to stick them to and they do break off easily. Otherwise all go go go! ;) btw have decided Ulthwe is going to be my foot slogging eldar, while Mymearan offshoot is the fast moving mobilised hard hitting force...
These will appear in a later post where will showcase my ladies of the miniature world. but The left one is from Infinity Ariadna range by Corvus Belli and the Right is Kujaku Hime of the Anima Tactics game from Cipher studios.Xepherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14225563081540654987noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4212196334295160940.post-10950611910160896362013-12-26T06:55:00.001-08:002013-12-26T07:06:26.927-08:00Seasons Greetings

Seasons greetings! Hope everyone had a great day with friends and family. This year seems to have flown by and Christmas came around all to quickly! Feeling for doing a review of the year style post but see how it goes.

Anyhoo yesterday was a fine day for hobbying.....No mini's in the haul as basically i get me own stuff anyway and the pile is big enough! But got some nice tools and such.

But as is a special day thought i'd tackle bigger projects yesterday. So was a hobby day Heavy Eldar vehicle style.... Mainly worked on the Lynx and broke out the wraithknight as a tester for this.....

... i only gone and done it.........a Revenant...... again ebay has proved my bane....and was just a cheeky bid to see what it would go for.. alas.....twas the winning bid. Was a bargain though as came pre prepped. Missing the head i would have preferred but i knew what i was getting..... But i really think i have a problem ..... oh wells... hopefully should be slowing down this year on the purchases :D

But this is the Sonic lances version as prefer the look. Now searching for poses for this beast but firstly need a base. Am thinking of a landing pose but heavy landing so thudding into something, make it a bit of a diorama.. something like this on Torg's blog cos this is an awesome version...Not sure i will be ale to replicate and will probably be a while before i start him.
Added a bit of wiring to his head to signify the psychic links. Then will be going for the bone scheme as with all my other wraith constructs.

Also need to decide on the base, again will have to be built up a bit.

As you can see have been working on this as sub assemblies again. Think this does slow down the building process as tend to pre-paint each bit but a bit helps reach those little details that are out of reach once built. But will work on the legs as don't like the stock pose and the little tabs that come pre-molded look to be purposely removable to allow reposing.

Weapon wise will see how to go about magnetising. But see how it goes, in some senses it was simpler in the old days when there wasn't so much choice... so many options now. But can't really complain as helps make everything a bit more unique

Anyhow to other works, also has been working on the Crimson hunter. A bit of an accident with masking but will be a red white and black scheme on the hunter. Again base needs to be worked upon. but will try and get the scheme right first.

Anyway in hobby life, have been flitting in between projects again while still buying way too much. Eldar still remain very much the focus, but having two flavours on the go is probably not a good idea. Add in Tale of painters Garfy's ultramarines being featured in white dwarf, got a bit of a hankering to getting around to finishing the terminator element of my own first company. What a palavar...and finally with some sad looking sanguinary guard languishing on the workshop table, they needed some love too... So all in all lots going on but no finished products.... nuts. However, thought i'd post up some quick shots of what progress has been made so here goes.

On the right is sang guard sqd leader. Wanted to try something different with his helmet and liking the way Iron man's mask opens up, i went for that kind of look, but with the deathmask as the face plate. Think his flesh face needs to be recessed a bit more but quite happy with it and coupled with the reposed legs(don't like the stock poses) should be quite dynamic when finished

In there you still have the unfinished spectres, with Irilyth and the farseer. A Wasp walker in progress, some dire avengers. A second wasp will be added shortly
From the other flavour you have my completed wraithlord from a few years back and new wraithblades. They are being joined by a newly acquired Wraithseer. Now was originally going to try and achieve a two handed pose with his spear but its proing fiddlly and liking the spear to the back hand outstretched look, may need to knock up some sort of psychic manifestation.

But there you have it, the photos that i have managed to get. What hasn't been captured is work on FW avatar, a crimson hunter and a load of black guardians. So haven't been completely been idle!

Till the next post.
I really wish i passed these first time, alas my old brain is not as it was...actually that's a lie, it's never been that good with exams, always missing by a few marks..sigh, but a few weeks til results so no need to think about that now. In addition taking a hiatus from them...well giving myself more time for the next lot as they have to be taken in one go and 3 new subjects is a bit heavy going on top of work.

Anyhoo that should mean more time to do stuff i enjoy (yey!). Having said that have recently been contemplating when is it deemed to much? My burgeoning unfinished pile continues to grow, fueled by the ever present temptations of ebay and a life free from other vices and social obligations owing to afore mentioned studies. This has allowed "shiny new things" syndrome and a lack of self discipline to run riot as i see things i like the idea and look of but having then bought them realise i don't actually have the time do much with them. This coupled with my titular impatience leaves a stream of unfinished projects which do nothing to sate the need for more as the unfinishedness disappoints somewhat but doesn't spur me enough to finish them as i move on to something else... an endless vicious cycle. However, looking at recent buys, have just realised how much i've got so is it enough....? the answer is yes but then if i enjoy it then whats the harm? Hmmm i haven't decided yet but i do need to slow down. But ebay bargains are still my bane. Need to keep the watch list down.

Anyway will continue to redouble efforts to finish things. So this post is dedicated to progress! But sitting down to hobby, you then realise just how much time is needed to be dedicated to building the darn things in the first place and all the prep work involved, so have been alternating between "build" and "paint" days to help this along. But at the moment focus is still on the Eldar. Mymeara is currently gaining a dominance to what i am trying to complete thanks to the spectres. But am working on several units of guardians, jet bikes, a crimson hunter and some characters. Should keep me busy. Mymeara will still be a variant of the FW scheme, Back story for my force that i'm going with is they are a remnant force of Irilyth the phoenix lord when he took a load of the Mymearans to destroy some unknown future threat. Therefore it's a small force. Minimal guardians and everything fast moving/mounted but hard hitting. Should consist of :
They were actually another ebay rescue and realised they were from a warseer member Aryllon. 2 of them were already done and as they were painted quite nice seemed a shame to strip them so painted up the remaining 3 including the exarch in the same manner (albeit changer the head on the exarch). Can you spot which ones are mine (apart from the exarch as have said that's mine already)
So today i reached a new milestone... the big fat 30. Old in body but still young at heart! Otherwise don't feel much different but have been a bit contemplative. Nevertheless one thing is for certain still love me toys! Has been a fun weekend with bbq yesterday at a friends celebration, but today the focus has been very much on me! nice! Haul wise as always have been spoilt by friends and family, some nice stuff. Hobby related items include Wraithfighter and knight, but also a new photo studio so hopefully better photos incoming! Still got to work out camera settings to suit but exciting times as have been looking at ways to improve things.

Made by my 2nd sister who obviously should be baking for a living. Maybe one day can convince her. But anyway behold the newest tank to the armoury.....Cakerium!!! This mighty tank dwarfed even the super heavys of the imperial guard! Forces of the imperium quickly rallied around the new arrival to try and tackle the Titans of battlegroup Xepherificus. Alas even with their new back up they were no match and Cakerium was destroyed in the ensuing battle fueling the battle group to even more wanton destruction leaving the defeat armies to scatter and regroup at another time.

Before its demise, a picture recording was captured and honoured Cakerium can be remembered with fond memories to raise the spirits and ensure that its sacrifice was not in vain! It was however delicious. Lets hope more role off the manufactorium floor soon! Though not too soon as may supersized the titan battlegroup!!
But here i am again, another week and another post! Wow,what is going on?
Nevertheless progress has indeed been made. Focus this week has been on the Shadow spectres.
Now whilst these are beautiful sculpts they don't half take a lot of time to prep as lots of mould lines keep popping up dure to the flowing robes and such, also on the actual carapace bit, removal from the its flash channel piece is also a bit problematic as is near a targeter detail. Think these are models that would benefit from some liquid greenstuff on hand. Alas i did not have any and being as impatient as the blog name just got stuck in. and touched up as i went along. As for storage, have no idea how that will happen as their billowy streamers will be very fragile. Anyhoo still, they are lovely dynamic looking models with a certain gundam-esque styling to them

Colour scheme wise, For Irrilyth i decide to follow Rant in E Minor's author Sorrowshard's scheme. My take has nothing on the original, but reasonably happy with him. Base just needs a bit more work.

For the spectres wanted a clean looking ethereal look so went with white and tried to make them appear a bit glowy, with a light ice blue on armour panel lines and gaps to make it appear like their armour was glowing and powering the robes. For the holo robes went with a dark turquoise. If my skill were better i would have tried to do a transition from white to the darker colour to try and suggest the holographic nature. Alas, still looks ok. Anyway will let the pics do the talking. Originally this was only goin to be a 5 man squad but after winning some more on ebay they are now 10 strong to accompany their lord in to battle and will be the core of the Mymearan detachment
So hot weather has been lovely and had relatively busy weekends so far in July. Despite that have tired to squeeze in some hobby time in between wedding planning thoughts and contemplation that i'm actually becoming a proper adult... scary stuff.

Anyway last weekend's time was mainly spent working on bases and adding markings and transfers, both processes which i often neglect, leading models to look unfinished and added to my demotivation. Not sure why i do that... probably short attention span and get distracted with other projects and new things. However, Trying to complete projects now so am taking the time to rectify this. As such, spent lots of time on the Avatar's base and wraithblades. Only pics of avatar's base though which was inspired by old Mark Gibbons artwork, instead of an imperial though had a chaos marine as the victim of his rage. He was made using a variety of bits including the old khorne 2 piece beserkers. This one the much abused freebie from a white dwarf back in my youth. But during this process discovered what fun cutting up marines are and then using respective off cuts for separate bases. so the back half of this marine went onto a dreadnought base. Think this might be my new fad. Anyway other than that it was tank markings to my armoured company. Having one the FW sheet of white guard transfers on ebay, decided to make use of them and start affixing them to me tanks. They are looking good but need sealing and then weathering can commence. But being an impatient so and so that has also already partially begun anyway

They are coming together so will update once they are in the final glorious finished state (hopefully at some point soon)

Anyway this weekends work was mainly spent on Irrilyth and the shadow spectres of my Mymeara contingent. Quite happy with how they are turning out but will post an update in the next post.... famous last words....
